Why I wanted to create a different kind of membership

Why I wanted to create a different kind of membership

When I started Rachel’s Writing Club back in 2022, I wanted to do two things:

  1. Create a practical way of getting business owners to actually write
  2. Get to meet people and have great conversations

Problem one: how to get people to write

I kept having conversations with business friends who would tell me they were keen to write blog posts for their businesses but for whatever reason, they weren’t.

Me: “How’s the blogging going?”
Them: “Oh, well, this, that, the other happened, maybe when I’ve got this (launch / family thing / client project) out the way…”

Over the years I have joined many memberships, enthusiastic about all the wonderful resources available in their library of courses, expert masterclasses, and swipe files. Then I have found that I never had time to watch all that brilliant material. Or, I would make time to watch the guide, but then didn’t do the work.

I didn’t want to add to people’s task lists. I wanted to help them tick a job off.

How to write about yourself without feeling icky

Problem two: how to create connection

I was sending emails while feeling I didn’t really know the people who were receiving them. I wanted to get to know more people and give them help directly.

I also wanted a place where interesting conversations could take place. I work on my own, you might do too, and I wanted the opportunity to chat to other business owners in a friendly, safe space.

The answer?

Rachel’s Writing Club!

Why is it different?

The membership is run live. The sessions aren’t recorded. We meet on Monday lunchtimes from 12pm-1pm for Monday Marketing Mojo.

The focus is on doing the work, not theory. I give you a prompt. You have a chat about it in the breakout room. Then you come back into the main room, put yourself on mute, and you write.

There’s a longer, 2 hour session later in the week, either on a Wednesday afternoon or a Friday morning so you can work on something on your task list. It could be:

  • A blog post
  • An email to your newsletter list
  • A sales page for a new offer
  • Repurposing existing content on your website for social media
  • Finishing off something you started work on during our Monday Marketing Mojo session.

Whatever your writing task, it’s easier done with someone sitting with you. One member of Rachel’s Writing Club refers to it as meeting up with your friends to do your homework in the library.

Rachel’s Writing Club is a doing space where you write for your business in the company of interesting people.

You can’t be ‘behind’ in Rachel’s Writing Club or feel like you’re missing out on the value in it. You come along and take part in an activity, get some writing done, and get on with the rest of your day/week.

If you’d like to write about your business in an interesting way, and get to know other business owners, then come along and join us!
